How the Foundation handles personal information collected through marinesanctuary.org.
Effective date: January 1, 2026 · Last updated: January 1, 2026
Overview
The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (the "Foundation") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit marinesanctuary.org, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using the Foundation website you consent to the practices described in this policy. We may update it from time to time and will revise the effective date below when we do.
Information we collect
When you make a gift, sign up for the newsletter, RSVP to an event, or contact the Foundation, you may provide your name, email, postal address, phone number, and payment details. Payment information is processed by Fundraise Up and the Foundation does not store full card numbers.
We also collect anonymous usage data — pages visited, links clicked, device type, approximate geographic region — via Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used and improve it.
How we use your information
Personal information you provide is used to fulfill your request — process your gift, send the newsletter you signed up for, respond to your inquiry, or register your attendance.
Aggregated, non-identifying analytics data helps the Foundation understand which content is useful, which advocacy campaigns are working, and where readers find the site confusing.
Sharing your information
The Foundation does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with vendors who help us operate the site (Fundraise Up, Mailchimp, Salesforce, Action Network) under data-processing agreements limiting their use to providing services to us.
We may disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights or safety of the Foundation or others, or in connection with a corporate transaction.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
Email development@marinesanctuary.org to update your donor record, opt out of donor recognition listings, or request that we delete your information (subject to recordkeeping requirements for tax-deductible gifts).
Children's privacy
The Foundation website is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.
